Outdoor Recreation Insurance: Top Hikes in the Tahoe Area
As the temperatures become more bearable, people are looking for the best outdoor destinations to hit up this Fall. With a vast array of hiking trails and campgrounds, the Lake Tahoe area is the ideal place for outdoor enthusiasts. Here are the top five best hiking trails in the area, based on user reviews from AllTrails.com.
Horsetail Falls. Located in Kyburz, this is one of the more difficult hikes in the area. It’s a relatively short hike, 3 miles out and back, however it takes you over rugged terrain that can be tough to maneuver for the beginner-to-intermediate hiker. What makes it such a desirable destination is the granite landscapes, lush creek side forest, and outstanding views of the massive waterfall.
Mt. Tallac Trail. Accessible from July through October, this is a 9.6 miles out and back trail located near South Lake Tahoe. This hike is rated as “difficult” by the United States Forest Service, but hikers have described the trek as “beautiful and breathtaking”.
Eagle Falls Trail. This trail is located off of Highway 89 and is one of the most popular hikes in Lake Tahoe. Visitors are attracted by the gorgeous cascading waterfalls, lush green scenery, and trees. This hike is considered to be moderate, and has no age restrictions, making it a great hike for the family!
Lake Margaret Trail. This trail offers another family-friendly hike. It covers 5 miles round trip, and is great for visitors who want to enjoy Tahoe’s terrain without going for a long, strenuous hike. Dogs are allowed on this trail, and you may often encounter horseback riders as well.
Bassi Falls- El Dorado National Forest. Cited as one of the easiest and shortest hikes in the Tahoe area, Bassi Falls is both a kid-friendly and dog-friendly hike, with an awesome view of the waterfall that falls for nearly 100 ft. Visitors have said that the falls can be deceiving, making the hike appear harder than it is.
